Leadership Matters Services Model

Leadership Matters provides Professional Development services including Coaching and Workshops to Public and Private Elementary, Middle and High Schools including Charter Schools. Our model begins with a complimentary visit to your site. We believe it is essential to see the talent in action and get a sense of the culture of learning. The visit will include:
• Review of Mission statement and Goals
• Review of data
• Observation of practice through classroom visits
• Curriculum review through interviews of staff or review of documents

After our visit, Leadership Matters will prepare a proposal that will lay out recommendations for coaching, curriculum support and professional development opportunities. This proposal will be personal to your organization, taking into account your talent base and needs. All services are integrated into the school culture as tools for capacity building and sustainability.

Once we are hired, our team will work with you to establish a "two-way accountability system" that provides for shared expectation and expects the use of protocols that drive new habits and ways of working. We rely on developing human capacity rather than purchasing commercially prepared programs that try to "teacher proof" education. We employ technology as an enabler to learning rather than the learning itself.

Our services for leaders are designed to model and cultivate leadership that, acts like and is perceived to be, instructional leadership by directly and indirectly participating with and supervising teachers' professional growth. We cultivate leadership that follows up and sets expectations for teacher growth and development as it relates to classroom practice and student achievement. We teach strategies to use periodic student achievement data to evaluate and reform instructional practices and professional learning opportunities for teachers.

Grant Development and Writing Services

Leadership Matters is uniquely positioned to assist districts and schools in developing and writing strong grant proposals. We have a process aimed at building on strengths, identifying areas in need of improvement and locating and adapting interventions that are both research-based and suited for the target populations. Our team of grant writers are experts in educational research and school reform and also skilled facilitators trained to build upon the strengths of the school community.

We see grant writing as a multi-step process that helps focus a school community on strategies for school improvement. This process results in a strong grant proposal and also serves as a key element of strategic planning for the school to follow as they strive to improve, whether or not the grant is funded.

The Leadership Matters process begins with a walk through of the school(s) and a survey of the community resources. We will then set up follow-up visits where our team can observe classrooms, review school documents and data, and schedule meetings with staff, parents and community leaders. The next step is for our team to present an assessment based on our findings. We will then work with the stakeholders to identify the school improvement components to include in the grant proposal.

The Leadership Matters protocol ensures that every committee member has a voice, that decisions are made by consensus and that all decisions are data-based and supported by high-quality educational research.

In 2011, we are responsbile for writing the proposal for a SIG grant that resulted in the highest funded award in New Jersey, equivalent to over half the amount of funding granted for the entire state. We also wrote a successful proposal for a Gates grant for a High school project in Philadelphia.
