Customized Services

Leadership Matters recognizes that every school and every district is unique. We will create a program for you that incorporates your strengths and addresses the needs of your staff. We begin with a consultation built around analyzing your school's:

existing structures such as the instructional program,
student support services,
teacher/leader effectiveness,
opportunities to problem solve issues, and
state data.

The consultation will include informal discussions with all levels of staff. Then jointly we will craft a program of PD that contains grade/departmental conferences and coaching that include opportunities to model, practice, plan, and problem solve. When we are not there in person, we remain connected for feedback and support through our online services.

Grant Development and Writing Services

Leadership Matters is uniquely positioned to assist districts and schools in developing and writing strong grant proposals. We have a process aimed at building on strengths, identifying areas in need of improvement, and locating and adapting interventions that are both research-based and suited for the target populations. Our team of grant writers are experts in educational research and school reform and are also skilled facilitators trained to build upon the strengths of the school community.

We see grant writing as a multi-step process that helps focus a school community on strategies for school improvement. This process results in a strong grant proposal and also serves as a key element of strategic planning for the school to follow as they strive to improve, whether or not the grant is funded.

The Leadership Matters process begins with a walk through of the school(s) and a survey of the community resources. We will then set up follow-up visits where our team can observe classrooms, review school documents and data, and schedule meetings with staff, parents and community leaders. The next step is for our team to present an assessment based on our findings. We will then work with the stakeholders to identify the school improvement components to include in the grant proposal.

The Leadership Matters protocol ensures that every committee member has a voice, that decisions are made by consensus, and that all decisions are data-based and supported by high-quality educational research.

In 2011, we were responsible for writing the proposal for a SIG grant that resulted in the highest per-pupil funded award in New Jersey, equivalent to over half the amount of funding granted for the entire state. We also wrote a successful proposal for a Gates grant for a high school project in Philadelphia.
